• Creating fake social media accounts to post or send messages claiming that the recipient has won a free prize on Halloween or other holidays. The message will include a link directing the recipient to enter personal or financial information, such as bank account numbers, debit or credit card numbers, card verification values, and one-time passwords (OTPs), which will then be misused.
Guidelines for preventing fraud
1. Be cautious when making online purchases, especially during peak seasons or holidays. Avoid buying from stores without physical locations. Instead, purchase directly from companies or authorized dealers. Additionally, when booking accommodations, do so through official channels or reputable online travel agencies.
2. Be cautious when purchasing goods or services that are priced lower than usual or are being promoted with discounts, exchanges, or freebies.
3. If you’re planning to purchase any goods or services through a Facebook page, be wary of fake or copycat pages. Genuine pages will have a verified badge, a higher number of followers, have been established for a longer period, and have clear contact details. At the very least, you should be able to call them for inquiries. Additionally, you should check the page’s transparency to see if it has changed its name before and if the page administrator is located in the country.
4. Beware of fake websites that may steal your personal information. When accessing any website, please manually type or enter the website address.
5. Do not click on links attached to emails or short messages (SMS) from unknown or untrustworthy sources.
