1. Rights as a Wife 👩‍

• • A wife has equal rights with her husband in managing joint marital property (community property).

  • She has equal rights to make decisions about the children alongside her husband.

  • If subjected to physical or emotional abuse, she can file a complaint or sue for divorce, and may also claim compensation.

  • She can keep her maiden surname after marriage or choose to use her husband’s surname voluntarily (according to the 2017 law).

2. Rights of the Mother

• • If a child is born out of wedlock (no marriage registration):

    • The mother automatically has custody rights over the child.

    • The father has no legal rights unless he legally acknowledges the child.

  • The mother can claim child support from the father, even if they are not married.

3. Rights to Divorce

A woman can file for divorce if:

• • The husband commits adultery or has another wife.

  • She is subjected to physical or emotional abuse.

  • The husband abandons her for more than 1 year.

  • The husband fails to provide financial support.

After divorce, the woman has the right to:

• • Half of the marital property, and

  • May also have the right to claim alimony.

4. Rights to Protection from Domestic Violence

• • There are laws protecting women from physical abuse, emotional abuse, and controlling behaviors.

  • Women can file complaints with the police or women’s support centers, and the court can issue protection orders immediately.
